What's this? Why'd you call it- no, Sirius, stop I-
[ there's a pause, sounds of a struggle and what could probably pass as a triumphant laugh. ]
Right! Name's James Potter. 'pparently you can leave things here for me to read later? Brilliant.
Uh, what am I even supposed to say?
Wait, no, this is my bloody-
[ and the feed is cut off. blame sirius. ]
text
but yeah
i dont kn [And he cuts off there, abruptly, and lets that hang where it is for a moment before he goes on. Maybe he should have started with a sorry or something but the moment seemed too urgent for that.]
i bloody well hate this ship
text 1/2
[ now it's james' turn to cut himself off, because neither still a mess or okay sounded right. maybe there are apologies or something else that needs to be said, but james is honestly just so relieved to be talking to sirius again he doesn't really care. ]
I know
me too
text
and there's not a fucking thing I can do to help him
[ and above everything else, sirius should know how hard that is for james to admit. to deal with. to anything. though this is just added onto a list of things keeping him up all night, but it's not about him. not right now. ]
text
And that's exactly the trouble for Sirius. He can't be without James. But there's no time for that now, this is about Remus. This is big.]
me too
ive been keeping with him but hes
merlin theres not even a word for it i keep thinking miserable but its worse than that its like hes just lost
[A beat; he adds:]
be good if you came round i think
text
well. whatever it is, it's not about him. or them. it's about helping remus and not much else. ]
lost and not really wanting to be found
but it's good you've been there
not fond of the idea of him being alone
[ james stops for a moment when he sees that, and it ends up taking him a moment or two before he responds, deleting a few iterations of you sure or you okay with that? and instead decides on: ]
I'm at the kitchens, now
anything you think I should bring?
text
figured it would be best if there were more of us
[Keeping watch, sort of, more keeping company than anything else. It's like when they'd sneak themselves into the hospital wing to see Remus. No more than two at a time at his bedside, so they'd take turns hiding under the bed and crawling out when Madam Pomfrey retreated, slagging her off with good-natured viciousness.
Only two, right now. James better not bring Peter along, not now, not to this. Sirius isn't quite ready for that.]
bring chocolate & more liquor & yourself. easy list.
text
more the merrier, right?
[ keep watch, keep his mind off things, or just let him know he's not alone. james doesn't like the fact he left in the first place at all, but what's done is done and he'll be back in a matter of moments.
but james knows where to push and where to not, and bringing peter won't help anyone. especially remus, or peter, who are each dealing with their own problems without the addition of each other's. ]
I'll do what I can with the chocolate, but pretty sure Lily gave him all of her's
liquor and myself are already on their way. our way.
text
its a pity this ship doesnt provide for basic human needs like chocolate liquor
[It's a weak and stupid little joke, but maybe it will help to bridge the awkward gap that's going to come when James arrives and they have to face each other and apologise without actually apologising. Sirius is a master of such things, but this time feels a little different.
It'll be all right, though. James is coming here, and that's a start.]
thanks mate
see you in a bit
text - do we wanna handwave, log or action it? o:
but I'll see what I can do, no promise of course, but I'll see
[ it gets a little smile, though fleeting and weak, but it's something. james is expecting the awkward, of course, but he's hoping that their similar goal will make it alright. remus always did come first.
but he is coming. and whatever happens, he's got faith it'll work out. ]
