[ there's a pause, sounds of a struggle and what could probably pass as a triumphant laugh. ]

[ and the feed is cut off. blame sirius. ]

[ guess who is standing right outside the door, though he still looks exhausted and he still lacks that careless state of happy he usually sits in, but he's better than he has been. ]

[What sort of question is that, because as soon as he sees James, Sirius grabs him by the arm and yanks him into the room, with a breathless sort of grin. If James is a little dull, a little more lifeless than usual--then Sirius will make up for that lack; Sirius will fill in the spaces. That's what he does.]

You're a git--what were you waiting for, were you going to knock? We don't knock, Potter, you and I are beyond knocking-- are you really claiming credit for the stars, by the way? They're lovely. Thank you.

[ he almost laughs a little when he's basically jerked back inside sirius' room, which is a sign for better things to come. ]

Waiting to see how long it'd take you to notice me out there. I'd never knock- [ but then a totally nonchalant shrug. ] Only the best for my love, after all.

[doggedly]

Yeah, well, for my love, I've got half a bottle of firewhiskey with JAMES POTTER written all over it. Bit less romantic, more demonstrative, but...

[He shrugs, and gestures to the bed, like James needs inviting to take a sweat as well.]

No glasses. Straight from the bottle for manly men like us.

[ he's already moving to the bed when sirius gestures, taking a seat in the same spot he always tends to take when he walks in, sliding back so he can settle against the wall. ]

Manly men. [ with the correct amount of voice as is necessary when something is manly. ] Good to know you took our manliness into consideration for planning for today.

[doggedly]

Excuse me, Potter, but I always factor in our extreme manliness. In fact, it's one of the things I most often think about: the manliness of James Potter and Sirius Black.

[He hops onto the bed as well and crawls to lean against the wall beside James, with a sigh.]

I'm even going to do the manly thing and let you have first go at the whiskey. How's that for you.

Do you now? [ but james reaches his hand out, asking for the bottle. he takes a long swig of it before he hands it back to sirius, shaking his head from the kick of it. ]

Fine for me, though it does beg to question my manliness if you're the one giving it up.

[doggedly]

No, you don't need any extra manliness. You get extra manly and you're going to kill us all by accident--

[He takes a pull from the bottle as well, with just a slight twist of his face. Usually he would try to repress even that, but this is just James, he can pull faces around James--]

You're perfect just the way you are, James Potter. Trust me.

Not really sure what manliness has got to do with accidental murders, but if you say so.

[ he watches sirius pull the face and he doesn't even blink, just takes the bottle back from him and stares at it for a moment before he goes for another. which he ends up half-choking on a little when sirius speaks again. ]

You know, you might just be the only person in the world who thinks that, mate. But I appreciate your vote of confidence.

[doggedly]

[When he claps James on the shoulder, it's-- sort of a pat on the back as well, as if helping to clear his throat a bit.]

Ah, but even if I'm alone, I will always think it, so that counts for a bit more, I think. Plus my vote's good for double, since it's the only one that actually matters. Well, maybe Moony gets half a vote that matters, just because of who he is, and all.

[He glances to the other side of the room, contemplating it a moment. Still Remus', no matter what.]

He's-- doing all right, I guess. Yeah?

[ it works, whatever it is, and james sits back against the wall again. maybe leaning a bit more over towards sirius just because proximity and sirius and he's there. ]

Honestly, yours is one of the only opinions I really care to take into consideration, so yes. Good for double, good for it all. Moony-

[ that's a whole different issue, isn't it? whether it's moony or not moony or the moony they remember or the moony that doesn't remember them. he shrugs at sirius' question, staring at the other bed for a few moments before going back to take another sip from the bottle again.

this time it goes down must smoother, but that's not really a good thing, is it? ]

I guess. Haven't seen much of him. [ he looks to sirius, handing the bottle off. ] Has he?

[doggedly]

[He sort of half shrugs, like maybe no, maybe yes, maybe just maybe. The shrug shifts his shoulder against James a little, digs into him, but that's all right, James won't care. He never cares.]

S'ppose so, yeah. More or less.

[He takes another swig from the bottle--slightly larger this time--and then, after a pause, gets in a second for good measure, just because.]

Mind, you're one of the only ones I really take into consideration, in general. So I've been a bit obsessed with you for some time now, if you've not noticed--like, years and years--which has really weakened my greater powers of observation. So much time spent staring at you, and so on.

[ cares? no, not at all. he actually prefers it a little, seeking the contact without letting himself really search it out. but when sirius shoulder settles against james, james shifts to lean a little more on his best mate. just a fraction.

james snorts a little at sirius' answer, shaking his head. ]

We're on a ruddy space ship. More or less is about as good as expected.

[ he doesn't even reach for the bottle this time, settling into his spot, letting the burn settle in his throat. which isn't helped by the way he laughs a little, looking over at sirius with a raised brow. though it doesn't hold the same sort of snark it usually does. ]

Years and years? My my, I'm flattered. Though I guess the staring's in order and all that, seeing as I can hardly keep my eyes off you. Does that make us both shit observers?
